(NEW) Ethereum Pectra Upgrade
Ethereum’s Pectra Hard Fork: Discover how Ethereum's Pectra update will transform ETH staking.
What is the Prague/Electra Upgrade (Pectra)?
Prague/Electra (Pectra) is the next major Ethereum hard fork. It consists of two components:
- Prague – the execution layer upgrade
- Electra – the consensus layer upgrade
Together, they aim to significantly improve Ethereum staking by offering greater flexibility, efficiency, and security for validators and stakers.

Key Features
Increased Validator Staking Limit
Raises the maximum effective balance per validator from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH, enabling auto-compounding of rewards on the consensus layer.
Faster Validator Deposits
Reduces the activation delay for validator deposits to approximately 45 minutes, plus the activation queue.
Independent Withdrawals
Allows stakers to withdraw rewards or exit without relying on a validator operator.
Reduced Slashing Penalties
Slashing penalties are significantly reduced (by 128x) to minimize risk and improve validator safety.
FAQs
🧾 General Support
Will Blockdaemon support Pectra validators at launch?
Yes. Blockdaemon will support the new 0x02
validators as soon as Pectra is live.
- Launch enhanced validators with up to 2,048 ETH each
- Consolidate or upgrade existing
0x01
validators to the0x02
standard
New validators using the 0x02
type will start benefiting from auto-compounding immediately.
Do I need to convert existing validators once Pectra is live?
No. Your existing 0x01
validators will continue to operate normally and earn industry-leading PRR on your staked ETH. There’s no action needed unless you want to take advantage of new Pectra features like auto-compounding.
Info
0x01
validators will still have a 32 ETH maximum effective balance and no auto-compounding.
What Pectra features does Blockdaemon support?
Blockdaemon provides full support for both full and partial withdrawals. Access to Pectra’s features is available via:
- Staking API
The Post Stake Intent endpoint supportswithdrawal_type
with values of0x01
(default) or0x02
. - Blockdaemon app
New staking experience where users can choose the validator size and number of validators. Also, Add support for exit (full) and partial exit (withdrawals). - Wallet services
💸 Withdrawal Types
What are the different withdrawal credential types?
Before the Pectra upgrade, Ethereum supported two withdrawal credential types: 0x00
and 0x01
. Pectra introduces a new type: 0x02.
0x01
- Manual withdrawal: The standard withdrawal type where rewards must be managed manually. It contains an execution layer address to receive both partial and full withdrawals.0x02
– Auto-compounding: It enables higher staking limits and requires manual skimming for early reward access, allowing for effective balances > 32 ETH and < 2048 ETH. It also enables the ability to exit validators using the execution layer withdrawal address.
What types of validators and withdrawals does Blockdaemon support?
Currently, Blockdaemon supports Type 1 validators. After the Pectra upgrade, we will support both Type 1 and Type 2 validators. These validator types and their withdrawal mechanisms are documented in the official Ethereum Launchpad FAQ.
How much ETH can I withdraw from a validator?
If your validator holds more than 32 ETH, you can withdraw the excess amount above that threshold. This is known as a partial withdrawal. Full exits are also supported.
🔁 Conversion & Consolidation
What is validator conversion and consolidation in Pectra?
With Pectra, validators can be upgraded from the 0x01
format to the 0x02
format using two methods:
- Conversion: The validator remains the same but upgrades in-place.
- Consolidation: Multiple
0x01
validators are merged into one0x02
validator.
✅ Conversion Requirements:
- Validator must be active
- Must not be in exit state or slashed
- Must not have pending manual withdrawals
In conversion, the source and target validator are the same.
✅ Consolidation Rules:
- Multiple validators can be consolidated into one.
- Each consolidation step is still pairwise.
- The target validator must not exceed the 2048 ETH maximum balance.
How can I benefit from validator consolidation at Blockdaemon?
Validator consolidation offers two major advantages:
- Compounding Rewards
Validators with balances >32 ETH (and up to 2048 ETH) can now earn rewards on their full balance after Pectra.
Compounding occurs in 1 ETH increments.
- Operational Ease
Operators can consolidate up to 64 validators into a single validator, streamlining operations.
A Blockdaemon community consolidation tool is in progress.
⚙️ Post Pectra Staking Configurations
How does Pectra affect Blockdaemon staking configurations?
Default Configuration
- After the Pectra upgrade, all default staking configurations will use Pectra-only staking.
- Users can choose the number of validators. The validator size is fixed between 32–2048 ETH.
Custom Configuration
- All new custom staking also defaults to Pectra-only.
- Users can choose both the number of validators and a validator size, 32 ETH (0x01) or 32–2048 ETH (0x02).
