How to Set Blockdaemon as Proxy for Nomination

This guide helps you set up and stake your KSM tokens using the Polkadot.js UI. If your KSM tokens are in an external wallet (e.g., Math Wallet or Lunie), you can connect it to the Polkadot.js interface using compatible wallet extensions. For assistance with wallet integration, please contact your Customer Success Manager.

🚧

Notes

  • You can revoke proxy status at any time, which will cancel any delegations made by Blockdaemon on your behalf.
  • Unbonding tokens takes 7 days before they are available for transfer.

Step 0: Claim and Map KSM

  1. Follow step-by-step instructions on the Kusama Claims website to Claim and Map your locked KSM.
  2. Confirm your Kusama address by checking it on the explorer: https://polkadot.js.org/apps/#/accounts

Step 1: Stash Account Setup

Make sure your claimed KSM is accessible via the Polkadot.js UI. The account that holds the KSM you plan to bond for delegation will be referred to as your Stash Account.

📘

Recommendations

  • Add “Stash” to your account name for clarity.
  • Validators must keep 10 KSM unbonded to set an identity. For Nominators, it's optional but needed if you want your address branded on the dashboard.

Step 2: Bond Setup

  1. From the Network menu, select Staking, then go to the Accounts tab.
  2. Click + Stash.
  1. Choose your Stash Account, enter the amount to bond, and specify where rewards should go.

🚧

Note

Don’t bond your entire balance. Keep a small amount for transactions.

Step 3: Add the Blockdaemon Proxy Account to your Contacts

  1. Go to Accounts, then select Address Book.
  2. Select Add contact
  3. Add the proxy account address provided by your Blockdaemon Account Manager.
  4. Please give it a name that makes sense to you. We recommend “Blockdaemon Proxy”.

Step 4: Set Blockdaemon as a Proxy

  1. Go to Accounts, then select the My accounts tab.
  2. Click on the three vertical dots next to the account you'd like to select.
  3. Select Add proxy.

🚧

Note:

Assigning a proxy requires a deposit of 20.008 DOT (Polkadot) or 0.666933 KSM (Kusama) per proxy. This deposit is returned when the proxy is removed.

Please note the deposit amount is subject to change and it is best to check polkadot official documentation prior.

  1. For the Proxy account, select the Blockdaemon Proxy account added to your contacts in step 3.
  2. Set the proxy type to Non-transfer.
  3. Sign and submit the transaction.
  1. You will see a KSM reserve on your Stash Account. This will be unlocked when you revoke the proxy.

👍

Once complete, send your Stash Account address to your Blockdaemon Account Manager, and they will move forward with setting up your delegations with the Staking team.
