How to Stake SOL with Solflare Mobile and a Ledger device

Learn how to stake SOL tokens with the Solflare mobile wallet and a Ledger device via Blockdaemon in this step-by-step guide.

Solana is a blockchain offering ultra-fast and cheap transactions. Solana’s vision is to create a decentralized network of nodes that match the performance of a single node. SOL is the native token on the Solana network, and it’s easy to stake with Blockdaemon.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to stake SOL tokens with the Solflare mobile wallet and a Ledger device. We’ll be using the iOS wallet, but there’s also a wallet for Android. Note that the staking process is non-custodial, which means that you are in full control of your private keys and your tokens.

Follow the steps below to stake SOL:

Step 1 – Install Ledger Live on Your iPhone

  • Go to the App Store, search for Ledger Live, and then download the app.
  • Open the app, allow Ledger Live to connect to Bluetooth, and then tap Get started. Follow the instructions on the screen to connect to your Ledger device.

📘

Note!

The instructions vary depending on whether you’re setting up a new Ledger device or connecting to a device that’s already been set up.

Step 2 – Create a Solana Account

Next, you have to download the Solana app onto your iPhone from Ledger Live and add some SOL to your account.

  • Tap Add Asset.
  • Tap With your Ledger.
  • Search for the Solana app and install it on your Ledger device.
  • Open the Solana app on your Ledger device and follow the instructions on the screen.
  • Swipe the default Solana account to the right and rename it.
  • There’s a message saying Asset added successfully. Tap to see your asset.

Step 3 – Download the Solflare App

  • Go to the App Store, search for Solflare – Solana Wallet, and then download the app.
  • Open the Solflare app, and then tap the Ledger button in the Continue with area.
  • There’s a message saying that Solflare wants to connect to Bluetooth. Tap OK to allow this.
  • Tap the I paired my device button.
  • Tap the Ledger device you’re trying to connect to.
  • Tap Quick Setup.
  • You now have an empty wallet. Tap Receive, and then send some SOL tokens to the address. How you send tokens varies depending on which Solana wallet you’re transferring the tokens from.

🚧

Caution!

Make sure you familiarize yourself with the process before buying or sending tokens.

With funds in your account, you’re ready to stake some SOL.

Step 4 – Stake With The Blockdaemon Validator

  • Tap the Staking tab, and then tap Start Staking.
  • Enter the amount of SOL you want to stake (delegate to Blockdaemon). You can’t stake all your SOL tokens because you’ll need some to pay for any future transaction fees including the staking transaction.
  • Enter Blockdaemon in the Search field on the New Staking Account screen.
  • Tap the Blockdaemon validator, verify that the amount you’re delegating is correct, and then tap Tap to connect to your Ledger.
  • Follow the instructions on the Ledger to verify and sign the transaction. Make sure that the Solana app is open on the Ledger device and that you’ve enabled Blind Signing.
  • You can see the transaction ID while the transaction is being processed.
  • When the transaction is confirmed you can see that the status is set to Delegating. It can take up to 3 days before the delegation becomes active, and you’ll start earning rewards.

Step 5 – Check Your SOL Rewards (Optional)

If you want to check the status of your staking rewards, tap Staking. You can see that the status is Delegated, and you can view your rewards.
